]]>Old Skool Bikers ride to the top of the world - Khardungla at 18, 380 feet above MSL. The group consisted of 21 motorcycles and 31 bikers. Route followed was Delhi->Chandigarh->Manali->Tandi->Sarchu->Leh->Khardungla->Nubra Valley->Khardungla->Leh->Kargil->Drass->Sonmarg->Srinagar->Jammu->Pathankot->Chandigarh->Delhi.

]]>Aug 12, 2007 Xavier, Prashanth, Lloyd and Sankara rent a Toyota Corolla to go on a drive one sunday afternoon. Deception Pass, a strait separating Whidbey island from Fidalgo island in the northwest part of the U.S. state of Washington is where we were headed! A short hike through the serene forests and by the side of the gleaming waters, pass through the very complex looking base structure of the deception pass bridge, chilling out on the beach and enjoying sights of boats and fishing trawlers motoring on the still waters and eagerly waiting for the sunset on the red horizon would briefly summarize this short trip. Net-net, a great place to just laze around!

]]>Aug 14, 2007 Ravi Kittu, Prashanth Kota and Sankara go on a late night drive to Seattle. This was after Ravi treated us to some Italian fine dining; he prepared nice pasta and served us some good red wine. This was our way of re-living "Sleepless in Seattle" and thus we landed ourselves at Alki Beach, a long beach strip on the puget sound that runs from Alki point to Duwamish point on Elliott bay. Soaked in the dazzling night views of Seattle downtown, space needle and port of seattle while relaxing at the beach. After spending an hour in the chilly weather I had become "Sleepy in Seattle" and we started trudging towards our car. Intend to visit this beach some time during the day to see the spectacular views of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, and the flotilla of ferries, sailboats, steamships and other craft that ply Puget Sound waters. And, to try some skating here on the awesome skating zones.

]]>Aug 18, 2007 Ramya, Ravi and Sankara set out for some shopping after a sumptuous south Indian lunch at Ramya's place. We goto Northbend shopping mall, which is about an hours' drive from Bellevue. After finishing all our shopping, we wind our day (or rather I thought so) by going to the picturesque and green town of snoqualmie to go see Snoqualmie water falls that falls from a height of 270 feet. Didn't stay here for a long while and do justice to the many hiking trails that take you to the foot of the waterfalls as Ramya kept pestering us :-) to go do some more shopping (BTW, Ramya enters "SUPER" mode on hearing the word "SHOPPING"). Well, we did spend some time at the observation deck and saw the waterfalls thundering down and were spectators to Ravi's antics and photography sessions. Then, we were off for some more shopping!

Road Trip to Olympic Peninsula, WA

]]>Aug 25-26, 2007 Ravi and Sankara goto the Olympic Peninsula at the extreme north-west corner of the US, a place known for its diverse climatic conditions, that includes the stormy pacific ocean, heavy dew and snow factor and lots of sunshine that leads to pristine beaches, rich & dense temperate rain forests and mountains with glaciers. Keynotes were a ferry ride from Edmonds to Kingston, camping at Lake Crescent, hike on Rialto beach to arches and sea stacks, a hike through the Hoh rain forest (a temperate rain forest known for its rich vegetation and record-breaking tree sizes) and shooting sunset at Ruby Beach. Other activities included having lunch at at the archaic Port Townsend, a drive to Hurricane Ridge, at 5,242 feet that offers views of Mount Olympus, glaciers and wilderness, spotting some black-tailed deer in sub-alpine meadows and a drive to Sol-Doc hot sulfur springs. Covered over 700 miles in under 2 days across terrain that is one of its kind in the whole world!

]]>Nov 1-10, 2007 Anshu and Sankara left home with the intention of trekking 10 days in the Western Ghats while carrying our tent, sleeping bags and ration for those 10 days. Ended up trekking 320 kms in 10 days. We trekked through the highest peaks in Karnataka, through coffee estates, through dense forests, through leech infested territories, lashing winds (upto 70 kms/hour), tons of greenery and a pristine beach. The Route was Chickmangalur->Mulayangiri Hills->Baba Budangiri Hills (a wind tunnel known for its super high winds esp in the night)->Kemmengundi Hill Station->Hebbe Falls->Kalahatti Falls->Kollur->Kodachadri Hills->Maravanthe Beach->Kundapur. At the end of this trip both of us lost 7-8 kgs inspite of sharing 100 slices of cheese and tons of other fatty food between us.

]]>Feb 23-24, 2008 A road trip in India for me after a long gap of 7 months. Sachin, Archana, Somendra, Shweta, Souparna, Vinodh and Sankara form the roadie club and hit the road in 2 cars (Lancer and Swift) and 1 bike (pulsar). This time the destination is Red Hills, an ecosystem of 8 lakes nestled in the Blue mountains (Nilgiris), about 30 kms east of Ooty. The intention was to camp by the lake side, but due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to move to Plan B, but we still ended up camping at Red Hills Resort, that was built by the British in 1875 and that is now being run by the Vijaykumar family. This trip, like all other road trips had all the ingredients of a bang-up weekend - 720 kms over 2 days, good roads, 36 hairpin bends, no roads (butt-breakers), camping close to nature, camp fire and -OH sessions, drunken banter, getting intoxicated by the pure air, good food, sun burns, bitter cold winds, a fabulous drive/ride. and goodies (chocolates from Ooty) for the household.

]]>Friends go on a weekend camping trip to Bheemeshwari. The camp site was a peninsular site surrounded by the cauvery river on 3 sides. A short trek to a nearby hillock, water sports, chasing away monkeys, cooking sumptuous food and staring at the starry night was how this weekend was spent.
